Sweet Mother International (SMI) and the United African Women Community Support Group -Kenya had a campaign program on 21 December 2011 at Makunga Health Centre.
At this occasion, they cleaned the labour ward and did the general cleaning of the whole compound.
Team later delivered 3 pregnant women. The first baby was delivered at 12.05pm (as
seen in the pictures below) using birthing kits donated by Birthing Kits
In addition, in December 2011, the Team educated 10 couples about peace building in the family.
Furthermore, the team is also following up with ensuring that justice is done to the women who were raped. The adjoined court hearing will take place by mid January 2012.The Team provided care and support to HIV/AIDS victims on 24 December 2011. However, they still require more assistance from good Samaritans to satisfy the needs of these victims.
The Team actively canvassed for election of women into Kenyan parliamentary seats in August and are optimistic that with more women in parliament, proactive actions will be taken by the government to deal with the issue of maternal deaths in Kenya.
The SMI Team and United African Women Community Support Group have also started a Nursing School and now have 45 students.
